The Professional Designation program offers professionals recognition for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism in the mortgage banking industry. Acquired through combinations of professional experience, education, and examinations, CampusMBA offers the Accredited Residential Originator (ARO), the Accredited Residential Underwriter (ARU), the Certified Mortgage Technologist (CMT), and the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB). Let’s take a look at each designation.
Accredited Residential Originator (ARO). The ARO designation is for mortgage loan originators seeking recognition for professionalism and experience in originating residential mortgage loans. The ARO signifies an individual's superior knowledge, experience, and professional conduct in the origination of residential mortgages. To receive this prestigious designation from the Mortgage Bankers Association, candidates must have experience actively originating residential mortgage loans, and/or undertake a rigorous professional training program. Candidates must acquire 50 applicable points and pass a comprehensive exam and essay.
Accredited Residential Underwriter (ARU). The ARU designation signifies an individual's superior knowledge, experience, and practical abilities in residential underwriting. This prestigious designation reflects the highest degree of underwriting excellence associated with reviewing credit and property applications with one- to four-unit residential properties. If you are a mortgage loan underwriter seeking recognition for your professionalism and experience in residential mortgage lending, the ARU designation is for you. Candidates must acquire 50 applicable points and pass a comprehensive exam and case study.
Certified Mortgage Technologist (CMT). The CMT is a new designation that signifies an individual's knowledge of mortgage banking technology. This designation is designed for Information Technology (IT) professionals, managers, and executives (CIOs and CTOs) in the real estate finance industry. The CMT requires significant knowledge about current technological tools and processes, such as Internet applications, Automated Underwriting Systems and common development tools (Microsoft, .NET and Sun's Java). The first CMT class graduated at MBA’s Technology in Mortgage Banking Conference on March 15, 2004. Candidates must acquire 50 applicable points 15 of which must come from attendance at the School of Mortgage Banking Course I, submit a thesis, and present and defend their thesis to the MBA Residential Technology Committee.
Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB). Oregon is pleased to have two of the newest CMB’s who are Mark Fisher, Commercial CMB, and Dan Ferris, Master CMB. The CMB is the pinnacle of distinction and represents a professional standard recognized throughout the real estate finance industry. The CMB designation is awarded to mortgage banking professionals who have both experience and demonstrated knowledge in the field of real estate finance. The CMB designation signifies to the real estate finance community an individual's superior knowledge, understanding, and competency in residential and/or commercial real estate finance, and distinguishes professionals for their steadfast commitment to excellence and high ethical standards. The CMB plays a major role in developing the foundation for the future leaders of the real estate finance industry. Candidates must accumulate 150 points in areas of experience, education, and participation and pass written and oral exams. There are three ways to obtain a CMB designation.: 1. Commercial testing. 2. Residential testing. 3. Testing in both Commercial and Residential. This is known as a Master CMB.
